About TASMAR
Levodopa and carbidopa are considered the ‘gold’ standard in Parkinson’s disease treatment. While most patients get a significant response to this treatment, the clinical response declines as the disease progresses. After five years, most patients develop motor complications that occur due to the decline in therapeutic response to levodopa/carbidopa treatment.
TASMAR® (tolcaphone) inhibits catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT), an enzyme
that catalyzes the metabolization of levodopa into 3-O-methyldopa. This provides
a prolonged maintenance of serum levodopa levels, which may provide a longer
clinical response to levodopa treatments.
